Week5 Play Journal

Chaos Make it Beautiful

For some musicians and content creators, sometimes it is important to make sure that other collaborators are sharing the same music aesthetics/understanding while they are making a soundtrack together. However, Athena Sullins made this beautiful asynchronous game called Chaos Composers (Sullins, 2021) introduces me to an incredible way to make music.

Rules

The rule is pretty simple to summarize. All the players need to take turns and roll dice. Players need to add musical notes to Chrome Music Lab SongMaker according to the corresponding action specified on the rule book.

Game Experience

Before I made any conclusion, I think I need to put our game progress and show you what’s happening during these days.

Summary

Although I talked a lot about musicians and music at the beginning of this journal, I know little about music. However, I think my lack of music knowledge really boosts my game experience.

  • It is a brilliant choice to use chrome music lab as a platform to play this game. It is easy to use, I can play around without learning anything.
  • While cooperating with others, I can just put a few drums and melodies, and other talented players can let the magic happen. I will feel extremely happy when the final music comes out because I know I contributed(Mostly being Carried).
  • The async mechanics really fits the game. It feels like waiting for every year’s Christmas Gift. You are looking forward to receiving it and cannot wait to see what is it.
